The rising tariffs on European wines and Scotch whisky in the US is reportedly driving buyers there to seek out other drinks and Cognac remains, so far, untouched by the recent tax hikes says The Drinks Business.

Interest from Asia and the US in very old and rare Cognacs has been rising recently according to retailers.

Meanwhile, much the same as Scotch, interest in old Cognac is boosted by spirits from closed distilleries which are incredibly scarce and in turn are very sought after and with rising prices to match.

Hence, there is a growing interest for cognacs from pre-phylloxera, that means cognacs produced prior to 1870. Good luck finding a cognac affordable from this era. And if you do please do not mix it with soda, even if you are a rapper!

To provide another option Comandon Cognac produced a limited edition Single Cask Cognac and vintage from 2012, using used casks with 100% Folle Blanche grape varietal, ie. the most common varietal fro pre-phylloxera era. These bottles were originally affordable that is less than $60 but I do not think you can find any anymore anywhere all sold out I supposed. Perhaps, someday they will come out from some people holding on them to sell them later. We produced about 240 bottles only!
